Before applying to Animschool I had some experience and general knowledge about 3D animation. I had just graduated from art school in Vancouver for 2 years where I decided to focus and prioritize myself on learning and improving my skills in 3D animation but I wasn’t really satisfied with the way my demo reel was looking at the time and I felt that I could develop my skills to the best of my abilities and to a whole new other level.

Two years ago, I joined AnimSchool and it was one of the best decisions of my life. AnimSchool has been a pivotal 2 years. Taking the Character Program really hones a student's ability to balance the fine line between technical and artistic problem-solving.

2 Years Prior to AnimSchool, I was fortunate enough to have attended a university(Southern Adventist University) that wasn't really known for its animation program. Regardless, there I came across and studied under a Disney veteran(Hendel Butoy) along with a super supportive team of professors(Zach Gray, Jesse Rademacher, Marc Boyson, Donald Keefe, Nicholas Livanos, David George, and others). Their art department(SVAD) provided a super solid generalist foundation of skills required for the Entertainment Industry. As covid struck the world, my time there was cut short and I eventually decided to go home to continue my education online as well as for financial reasons. Deciding on a bittersweet shift of schools, I was recommended a list from The Rookies website by my professor Zach Gray. Out of that list, I eventually came across AnimSchool which was well-regarded by everyone there at SVAD.

Upon waiting for my portfolio assessment, I knew my technical and artistic skills needed more work but I was actually very glad that AnimSchool recommended that I start at the very beginning of their program since that's what I already had in mind haha. It was very interesting to have shared similar experiences with many of the friends I eventually made here at AnimSchool. I really love how 2 major programs are provided that push their students' skills as far as possible but also allow us to continue developing and exploring our 2D skills in addition to our main 3D classes through the free Art Classes and General Reviews provided each week. It's also super cool how the school genuinely strives to improve each year through one-on-one & anonymous reviews listening to their students as they implement changes accordingly. Flexible payment options are also provided from a monthly express plan, per-term/course plan, or per-program as well as allowing students to switch programs if need be(check out the school catalog for more info!). Lastly, the Discord, Facebook, and Alumni student support team are so caring and really make a tremendous effort to get you hired.

Overall, highly recommend AnimSchool and their Character Program to all levels of education(beginner or expert); if you are looking for a really good challenge/confidence boost, professional mentorship, as well as meeting lifetime friends who definitely become future colleagues.

From my peers and my own experience, I feel an issue with many arts/animation programs is that many graduates leave with half-baked skills that fail to impress employers. Before Animschool, I was in a general 3D school for 3 years but their method was really bad and I lost taste in the world of 3D. When I started in Animschool, from the first class I learned new things when it was only basic mechanical exercises.

Choosing AnimSchool is one of the best decisions I have ever made. After a few years in the wrong career, I decided to pursue my childhood dream job of being an artist in the animation industry. I can’t even begin to explain how thankful I am that I chose AnimSchool instead of another bachelor's or master's degree. When I started AnimSchool I was a total beginner. A little more than halfway through the 3D character program, I started doing paid part-time 3d modeling work (also thanks to AnimSchool) as a direct result of what I learned in class. The courses are taught by some of the best artists in the industry and they really go way above and beyond in terms of helping their students succeed. The courses are a lot of work (way more intense than my BS and MPH degrees), but it’s really worth it. It’s so much more than just class… they have all sorts of bonus learning material including art classes, workshops, contests, the ability to get additional feedback on work at the weekly general reviews, and a strong network of people in the industry (both students and instructors). The monetary value of AnimSchool is also really impressive considering some of the post-graduation benefits (class recordings, reviews, art classes, etc.). Lastly, I had a lot of fun and I was also able to make some really great friends all over the world that I hope to keep in touch with as we all make our way in the industry. Initially, I was taught animation very badly by the local animation Institutes, so I was very skeptical about learning animation over the internet. Being taught by people working/have worked in the industry is something that most other fields can't boast about. I loved that each teacher had their own workflow, and that I was able to see numerous perspectives on the animation process. Near the end of my last course at AnimSchool, I ended up getting a position at a studio, whose games I was playing only days prior.

So to start off, I enrolled in the game animation track for 3 courses

I was coming into the program with a degree and some technical skill, but wanted to improve my creative animation skills so I could hopefully

From the first to third term, the profs showcased a thorough understanding what the industry was expecting me to showcase in my portfolio, and every class

As someone who was a complete novice to Maya and modeling, I certainly gained more in my 21 months of training than I was expecting.

I completed the AnimSchool 3D Character Program.

I'm a graphic designer and digital artist but I've always harboured a love for 3D art and animation. I aspired to learn 3D modeling so that I can bring my art and style to the 3D space. That being said, words are not enough to express my appreciation for getting the opportunity to attend AnimSchool. As someone who was a complete novice to Maya and modeling, I certainly gained more in my 21 months of training than I was expecting. From character and environment modeling to texturing and lighting for 3D animation---I’m walking away from this program with a new arsenal of techniques and skills that I’m just itching to apply to my craft; both professionally and in my own personal work.

If 3D Character Animation is something that you find intriguing but intimidating, AnimSchool is the answer. The early classes (1-4) laid a crucial foundation using rigs specifically designed for understanding animation principles and body mechanics. The grading system provided me with clear feedback on when and where I could improve. This was so helpful in getting my bearings straight before tackling more advanced shots.

Animation is hard work! But at AnimSchool, I was surrounded by a community that went through/overcame the same struggles and frustrations. My classmates became a source of help, encouragement, and inspiration. My teachers went above and beyond in sharing their techniques, experiences, and enthusiasm. In addition to all that, I had access to several General Review classes, which provided even more perspectives and valuable feedback. My experience with AnimSchool has been amazing! If you're hard-working, self-disciplined and strive to perform your best effort then AnimSchool is the place for you too. AnimSchool provides a safety net environment where students are allowed to make mistakes and learn from them. Be prepared to work hard, as these classes and assignments can be intense, especially if you are already working in the industry full time and can manage to do them in your spare time. I can honestly say that I managed to do this and I don't see how anyone else can't do the same. At AnimSchool, you will also find the best inspiration from your peers who are doing it along with you and you learn together. I didn't only receive support from my instructors, but also through the friends that I have gained along the way. My experience at AnimSchool has been better than I could have ever imagined with the most amazing instructors, not just for program classes, but for all the classes and reviews in-between.

But, it’s not just the instructors that make AnimSchool such an amazing place to learn it’s the other people taking the journey with you and the way AnimSchool brings us all together to communicate and learn from each other that makes it so special. I wish I knew how to say "thank you." A way to express my gratitude for the instructors, administrators, reviewers, and fellow students for being a part of what has been the most rewarding educational journey I have ever undertaken. Never even touched a 3D program at the start of the course

AnimSchool did a great job at teaching me, someone who had never even touched a 3D program at the start of the course, to be able to create professional level 3D models almost 2 years later. I also loved being able to work alongside students from all over the world under teachers practicing in the industry. The classes were not a cakewalk and I struggled at the beginning while getting used to Maya and 3D modeling in general. However, the many late nights spent working on projects were well worth the effort.

MY EXPERIENCE AT ANIMSCHOOL - Actually I was thinking a lot about "What to write" - I mean AnimSchool is an Animation School meaning you will learn to animate - right?
Well, AnimSchool offers much more. I remember the time when I was thinking about to apply: I had a lot of questions and hoped to get every single one answered. I went to their website and BOOM one Pop-Up-Window later I suddenly was in a Live Chat and could ask everything I wanted. Which brings me to the topic "Support": Besides the great instructors, there are also other people involved. You probably - I mean hopefully - will miss me and my funny questions I had pretty much every day, but be sure: You helped me a lot and - I do not know how that was even possible, but you always had the right answer.

Regarding AnimSchool I think "Online Learning" works great and it is one of the best forms of learning. It can help to learn quickly and "Online Schools" are working in the same way as any other school, but - and that is more important: They help to learn independently and that is something which is just positive. No mixed results. Nothing. It is just awesome.

Working as a feature film animator before starting at AnimSchool, I understood that the world’s hi-end studios have a much stricter quality requirements that I could deliver with my current knowledge and skills. Prior to my studies I had a job as a 3D generalist guy. I was the guy assigned to do practically everything except the main animation - the one thing I've always wanted to do. I had done commercials and worked on TV for 5 years, but during my first class at AnimSchool I realized that I didn’t know how to animate yet! This was just so different!

I worked on my last assignment en-route to Australia from Ecuador. I was hired to work as creature animator for Ghostbusters 2016 at Iloura, Sydney. It was a great and pretty challenging experience. Workflow was different than I was used to, because realistic Creature animation has a different approach than character cartoony animation. There were also lots of quick changes with really fast turnaround time. After some time I got used to it. There were also two AnimSchool instructors on board, Terry and Chris who gave me a lot of tips and advice when I needed it.

One of the greatest things here: all the rigs are really appealing and the designs are really cool. And that’s also one of the things Recruiters at studios are looking for, so it was a big plus. I made a very good choice.

It’s been two years and I’ve spent a lot of time and effort, but I also see that I need more polish to really measure up to what is considered excellent and refined in a competitive field. AnimSchool is the best decision I ever made in my life. Thanks to AnimSchool I am now in France working as a Lead Character TD for Dwarf Animation Studios. I have been here for almost 4 years and still dreaming of the day when I could work alongside the professors who taught me.

I chose the Character Program mainly because I love Rigging and there is no other school than AnimSchool that provides a specialized program in Rigging. I learned the full spectrum – from the most important basics to the more complex production practices. It was so much fun meeting my professors who are just amazing at what they do and they inspired and really motivated me to do better everyday.

We also have Dwarf Academy where we train future employees. I teach Rigging and Python coding so I kind of become an Instructor myself :P We have worked on commercials, short films and now currently we are working on three TV Series. Before AnimSchool, I was working as a modeler and was looking to push my skills further. I looked around and AnimSchool stood out from the crowd.

The instructors I had were extremely top notched. They have working production knowledge and are extremely dedicated to their craft. In my own opinion one of the biggest plus from AnimSchool, is that David Gallagher is always in contact with the students and alumni: at the school page, social media or mail, and he listens to them! David is always making sure that everything is working properly and that the students are motivated and learning lots. That kind of personalized attention and level of detail are assets that you wont find in any other online school.

We stretched our limits & just as soon as we thought we have reached it, we realized that we can still learn more and keep improving...that is simply amazing!

When I started in AnimSchool, I thought I was going to learn how to use the programs for 3D modeling and rigging - just with that I would have been happy.

Months into my training, I found out that learning to use the different kinds of software was only the tip of the iceberg. There was a lot more to learn such as: how to make the characters "appealing", how to solve the problems that arise during the creative process.... the heartbreaking making and undoing and making again to achieve the best results possible. Before AnimSchool i had a few freelance gigs and was working with motion capture. However my dream was to make cartoons and learning with AnimSchool has help me achieve that as i now work as a animator on Doc McStuffins!

AnimSchool really help me get my head around timing and spacing, then learning more about how to add texture to a shot and then posing/lip sync really helped raise my game in animation. Before doing the AnimSchool animation course, I was working in game and was quite good at it. However, for the longest time, I wanted to work in film. Thanks to AnimSchool I was able to learn so much: from the basics of body mechanics to advanced acting shot.

The excellent Instructors they have are approachable and involved: always helping and finding ways to push my animation skills to professional levels. It was difficult working on the class assignments while having a full time job but it was worth it!

AnimSchool was a game starter for me. I enrolled in the program knowing nothing about animation, and before I even graduated I had moved to my 3rd animation job.

Every class taught me exactly what I needed to know when I needed to know it. The mechanics supported the funny body acting, the pantomime supported the broad performance, the broad supported the subtle emotional one, and before I knew it I had accomplished a little bit of everything I thought was impossible for a student to do.
